Patrick Ireland (Pireland) | Monday, July 23, 2001 - 04:12 pm My transmission went south this weekend, just after hitting third at about 12 psi boost it just disengaged as if someone put it in neutral. No noise. I didn't check pressure. It gives a slight "bump" when entering reverse or drive. Anyone care to venture a guess what has happened? Although I haven't dealt with them directly, I believe from hearing from fellow GN owners through the website that Ron Joseph from Ron's Custom Auto is very knowledgeable regarding GNs and is very talented. I also think he is one of the good guys because he responds to all my emails the very next day and is helpful. My question, can anyone give me a recommendation on the work he does on transmissions? I feel I can trust him, but..... My only other alternative is to ship it to someone in Texas or California. Patrick |
Ken Mosher (Kenmosher) | Monday, July 23, 2001 - 06:34 pm Sounds like the input shaft snapped... Ron will do a good job for you ... |
Brian Lee (Brianwagonlee) | Monday, July 23, 2001 - 08:03 pm ...or maybe the forward clutch drum shaft doohickey. I think it is also referred to as an intermediate shaft. If this is it, ask for the small broken piece. You'll be amazed at how small it is, with all of the HP going through that one little piece. I've broken both (input and intermediate) in my many years of beating on 200-4R's. Gotta go to bed. I blew my tranny tonight myself, and I have a long day ahead of me now. |
David Huinker (Turbodave) | Tuesday, July 24, 2001 - 08:39 am Definitely the intermediate shaft! I've gone through no less than 3 in the previous 3 years!! Now that I have Bruce's billet shaft in there, breakage is a none issue Dave |
Patrick Ireland (Pireland) | Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - 01:54 pm The plot thickens... I've learned that the trans I have is from a Monte Carlo. The previous owner didn't advise me of this, only when I called the transmission place who rebuilt it did I find this out. (There are too many people out there who don't really know what they are doing with cars/transmissions that are special). It has the GN governor assembly but not the BRF valve body. According to the website, there is a valve body from TCI, the listing on the parts database is: "TCI TR calibrated valve body (BRF equivalent) 382200" Has anyone ever used this body or knows of anyone who has? What were the results? I've contacted Ron's Custom Auto regarding the trans...I'm continually impressed by how helpful they are. I'll probably bring the car to them in a few weeks as they are swamped with work. |
