| | Sunday, November 02, 2003 - 03:04 pm Wondering what you guys think about buying a used 200 R4 out of an 87 Grand National? It was bought from ANS 4 years ago. ANS is Turbo shop out of Chicago IL. All they deal with is Gns, Typhoons, and Cyclones. The trans has a 12in 3200 RPM stall torque converter, with additional clutches, hardened front drum and stator shaft. The guy says he had it in his car that was at 522 HP, he was told the trans is capable of 700 HP. He says the trans has about 4000 miles on it. The reason he is selling it is because he developed a rod nock, and he’s in the middle of buying a house and doesn’t have the $ to put back into the motor, (so he is parting out the car.) He says he’ll guarantee the trans works. He says he has to get 800.00 for it. I would only have to drive about 45 mins to get it. Let me know what you guys think and if there is any thing I should look for or ask him before I buy it. Thanks for the info.

| | Sunday, November 02, 2003 - 09:13 pm Hi Kyle If Pete (with ANS) used Jimmy's Transmissions for the build up of that 200 4R and the transmission fluid does not smell burnt, this may be a decent buy. With 4000 miles in four (4) years your main concern is how many WOT runs it has had. Jimmy maintains street racers are harder on transmissions since there may not be any cool down time between runs as at the drag strip.

| | Monday, November 03, 2003 - 05:02 pm Hi Loyd, thanks for the reply. Just wondering if you know the guys at ANS? Do they have a web site? Also what did you exactly mean when you said (If Pete (with ANS) used Jimmy's Transmissions) Is Pete a guy who works at ANS, and is Jimmy’s Transmission a rebuild kit? Sorry for all the questions, some-what new to the GN world. Thanks.

| | Monday, November 03, 2003 - 08:46 pm Hi Kyle Sorry should have spelled it out more carefully. Pete Barton is the owner of ANS. He has opened up his shop for our Chicagoland Chapter GSCA for dyno sessions and general meetings. Great guy. Unfortunately he does not have a web site, but his E-mail address is ansperformance@worldnet.att.net Jimmy Hussion is the owner of Jimmy's Transmissions who has rebuilt about 40% of the Chicagoland Chapter member's tranmissions. If you need a built 200 4R in Chicagoland his shop is the place to go. If you need contact information on either vendor go to: http://www.chicagolandbuick.org/ and our advertisers are listed on the right hand side. Click on any of the names and it will take you to the ad for that vendor. Hope this helps
