| | Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 05:16 pm Is there a shop in the va or md area that can rebuild my 2004r transmission at a reasonable price, say $800 to $1300.stock or with a shift kit.. thanks joe.

| | Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 07:50 pm Don't know about the va or md area, but here is a list of things I put together from my own experience and from talking to other people. I "regular" 2004r won't hold up when you start making extra horsepower. Comments are welcome: Billet Servo: $150 - $190. Heavy duty wide band: $30 - $40. Heavy duty band anchor: $30. Above is sold as a kit from PTS for: $225. Biggest Tranny cooler you can find: $30 - $50. Art Carr aluminum deep finned pan (with 7004r filter mod): $150 - $200. Heavy Duty direct drum with clutches (red or blue): $112 - $180. Heavy duty clutches (red or blue): $100. Governer spring should be screwed down. Valve body shift kit: $70.

| | Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 08:03 pm I agree with Shawn. If you look at a GM parts book most of the internal parts have a different part numbers for the TR's. In all my years with Buick I only had two trans failures with GN's. Both from abuse by the owner. The 200 R4 has a bad reputation for failure but the turbo trans was built different internally. Be real carefull of generac parts from a normal trans shop.

| | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 01:36 am When I first started making more horsepower, with a few mods, at 90K miles, my tranny started to go. I had it rebuilt, but the only upgrades were a cooler, billet super servo, and shift kit. Then, when I started making more power again, with an upgrade to a TE44, etc, my tranny went again. That is when I found out about all the clutches and bands and drum etc. I wish I would have known the first time.

| | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 07:30 pm Having my tranny done as we speak, and getting most of the parts thru Art Carr including; New billet servo Drum 3 extra foward clutches Deep pan 10 vien valve body 9 inch lock up at 3200 etc.. Should get it back right after Turkey day I will let you know how it works. My old tranny was slippin bad 1-2 shift and anything past that wouldnt hold after 3/4 throttle, put in reverse and you could go get a cup of coffee and come back and maybe it might engage, haha. Not for nothing but this thing is costing me around 1,400....It hurts, but losin to a stang or vette because the tranny slips hurts worse!!

| | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 08:31 pm Jimmy...is that 9" lockup actually Art's 9/11?
|
| | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 09:37 pm Jimmy how streetable is your 9' lockup,i still have the stock d5 i would like to go with a 2800. stall. my combo is port & polished heads,molly rihgs,206/206 cam,double roller timing chain, ta49 turbo & 40lb inj,,thanks joe

| | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 10:32 pm Joe, a ~3k stall is very streetable (I have a 9/11 3k*). Hardly noticeable until you hit the loud pedal. *NOTE - stall speed will vary depending on powre output, IME. More power = higher stall speed with the same converter. My 3k flashes well beyond 3k. | | Thursday, November 27, 2003 - 07:49 am Actually I had the D5 before this rebuild and I believe it is art carrs' 9 11 if I'm not mistaken. I had spoke to him on the phone and he faxed over a product sheet on everthing he makes for a 200r4, I then called him back and we went over the things he thought were needed for my type of driving which is street/strip.There are prices on that sheet as well. When I started adding it up the parts were over 1200.00! I then shaved off a couple of things that were a little pricey and overkill and got it down to 900.00. The d5 worked alright but with t49 the carr was more responsive on a roll rather than dead stop. I will let you know about 911 and how it peforms in a couple of days. 3000-3200 is still streetable in my opinion as long as it is a lock up so your gas milage doesnt go thru the roof and highway speeds can be held in od at low rpms without slippage. When tranny was on its last leg it was doin something wierd, if I left it in OD and took off from a dead stop the car would start off in 2nd gear and be very sluggish out the gate. If I dropped the lever to 1st as soon as I took off in OD you would feel a sudden change and car would leave hard. Thats how I found out that the car had a problem in the tranny and it would only be a matter of time before it went totally.Anyone ever have the same problem??

| | Thursday, November 27, 2003 - 04:14 pm I would add the .500" MTV boost valve and larger rev/int boost valve. Also improved press reg valve. Direct needs blue clutches only. If above 450 hp, would seriously consider the HD fwd drum/int shaft (mine busted on a very hard shifting 13-sec car).

| | Monday, December 15, 2003 - 01:02 pm Phil, Can we get those part numbers you mentioned? I think it would be good to document it and keep it on this site somewhere.
