I own and drive a 1987 Buick Regal with a 1976 Oldsmobile 350 Rocket motor. I want to put a 200R4 tranny on my 1976 Oldsmobile 350 Roket motor. Will a 200R4 tranny bolt right up to my 1976 Oldsmobile 350 Rocket motor?

87 Regal owner,
Darryl

I moved this to a separate topic ...

Yes, it will bolt up. Depending on what transmission is in it right now, you may have to modify or change the rear crossmount and the driveshaft.

Right now what I have for a tranny is a 200 tranny that was on my Oldsmobile 307 motor.

Different things include:
You will need a cross member for a 200 R4 as the cross member for the 200C and 350 were different.
The rear tranny mount for the 200 4R is different as well.
You should change the speedometer cable, but one for the 200 C can be stretched to fit.
You will need the tranny fluid fill tube, and dipstick. Definitely different parts from the 200C
Transmission cooling lines are close enough to reuse with a little gentle persuasion.
You will probably need the TV cable for the 200 4R, but it should not be that much different than one for the 200C.

Driveshaft is the same,

See message below about the electrical wiring between the 200c and 200 4R at least for the 86 that I have experience with.

Hope this helps, I lucked out as I collected all of these things from the donor car where I got the transmission. Clean the cross member, then shake out all the rust from the interior then coat with POR 15 inside and outside as all the ones I've messed with had tons of rust inside. Hate to have all that torque break a nearly rusted out cross member.

Subject: TH 200 C versus TH 200 4R electrical connectins

In 86/87 the TH 200C for a V8 used a white 4 pin connector using only three
wires that basically is a flipped version of the 4 pin connector used on the
Turbo Regal IAC (Idle air control). You cannot plug the white connector from a 200C into a
2004R without turning it upside down. If you try plugging it in upside down
you will blow the fuse supplying power to the lock up solenoid.

You will need to pull the pins out of the white 4 pin connector and use a
black 4 pin connector. I got the pin pusher tool and black 4 pin connector
from John Spina as it is the same one
used on the IAC. Pinouts for the 200 4R are

With clip at bottom - A is in the lower left hand corner. Letters progress
counter clock wise
A - power to Solenoid
B - Forth gear signal to ECM
C - Third gear signal to ECM
D - grounds solenoid by computer to lock up torque converter

For the V8 version of the 200 C
With clip at bottom - A is in the lower left hand corner. Letters progress
counter clock wise
A - power to Solenoid
B - Third gear signal to ECM
C - Not used
D - grounds solenoid by computer to lock up torque converter

If you are no using the ECM many use the 4th gear signal (which grounds the wire) to ground the D terminal. Therefore keep the power to A (through the brake switch) and connect terminals B to D with a jumper. Anytime it goes into 4th gear it will automatically lock up this way.

One last thing the 7 1/2 inch ring gear in your differential will be your weak link. Would change the differential and drive shaft to a unit from a Turbo Regal or Cutlass 442.

I am also using the 200-4r in an engine swap. I'm putting a Buick 252 v6 and 200-4r tranny into a Chevette. I beleve i may have the th-200 (is that the same as the 200c?) in my car at the moment and was also wondering how to lock-up the converter, but i think my tranny has a blue 4-pin connecter.
