Under partial to 3/4 throttle the 1-2 shift barks the tires almost every time. At WOT, however, it hangs out for almost a second and then slides ever so softly into 2nd gear.

I have been told to check the line pressure but no one has explained how to do that.

The trans is the original and the car has 24k on it.

All the other shifts are very crisp. Trans is not low on fluid.

Would adding additional fluid help?

This is also happening to me after I rebuilt the trans. 2-3 slams at wot but the 1-2 slides. it's solid enough at part throttle but the wot performance is frustrating, i would like to chirp the tyres at the shift.
Could this be a problem with the accumulator or how is was put back together? what should I look for here?
Thanx for any advice.
Ian.

Remove the intermediate servo cover, replace the little seals and get a washer from your local hardware store (stainless). Make sure that the ID of the washer is the same as the shaft that the piston rides and about the same OD as the servo cover. the washer should be 1/16" or a little smaller. This firmed up all of my shifts. I needed to do this after a drawn out battle royal with AAMCO, so I could actually drivr the car. As far as I can see, after a year or so, the transmission is working fine. Fluid is in good condition, shifts still firm, and clean filter during changes. This may be an unorthodox fix, but it worked for me.
