Scott Keller (Keller) | Monday, December 03, 2001 - 02:44 pm We really don't discuss powerplants other than the Buick ones and Turbo 6 motors here, but... The 200-4R should be the same lengthwise and use the same 27 spline yoke. However, the mount will be about 7.5" futher back and will require the crossmember to be moved. You might try talking to the Monte SS guys, since this is a combo native to their cars. |
Robert H K Souza (Hawaiiant) | Monday, December 03, 2001 - 09:01 pm Howard, different crossmember and trans mount, crossmember will use the forward set of holes on the right side of the car. I've seen fabricated brackets, but the crossmember for the 3 speed trans is very common and should be easy to find. HTH -Rob- |
Robert H K Souza (Hawaiiant) | Monday, December 03, 2001 - 11:16 pm Oops, sorry Howard, I read the post backwards (dyslexic and/or lack of sleep) You will need the 200-4R crossmember from any G-body, and the speedo cable may be short and not reach the output shaft. The crossmember will mount on the rearward set of holes on the passenger side, and run almost straight across, instead of diagonal like the existing one. Only '84-on vehicles had the dual mounting pads for the crossmember. Also, there are "soft mounted crossmembers" (usually Buick V-6's have these, they have rubber pads on the frame-side of the crossmembers, and they have larger holes for the rubber pad to go thru) and rigid mounted crossmembers (bolted directly to the frame, V-8's are usually like this) note that these also use different trans mounts, 1 is offset (soft), and the other directly beneath (rigid) the pad on the trans.---Sorry for the off topic Scott, trying to help a fellow enthusiast--- |
