Jeromy gamble (Jeromy) | Sunday, December 09, 2001 - 11:18 pm I have an 86GN with ported heads(stock) 218/218 comp cam dutt neck intercooler 009's and a ported intake. I just switched from a TA49 to a TE62 the car has a 2800l/u converter in it now and is REALLY lazy spooling up. I can only get 5lbs at the converters max of 2000 on the brake. I drive the car about 150-200 miles a month, and a 50/50 of track and street. What converter should I use with this combo,I need help bad!!!! Thx Jeromy |
tommy perricone (Turbotom) | Monday, December 10, 2001 - 06:42 pm May I post a response on my similar situation. Sounds like you need 3000-3200 rpm stall converter. Remember to go one step at a time and test each component as you upgrade. I just ordered a 3200 stall by Art Carr today. I was really confused by lock-up verses non lock-up. The cam, injectors, turbo, exhaust, fuel delivery, etc. must work in harmony. What chip are you currently using, fuel?. There is so many variables that your head will spin. I just started upgrading my 87 Turbo T and taking one step at a time. |
Chris Bischof (Ungn) | Monday, December 10, 2001 - 11:44 pm With your combo I'd look into a 9/11 converter from PTS. It's weird that a 2800 stall converter won't stall to 2000 RPM on the brake because a stocker will go to 2300-2400 without too much effort. I would keep the lockup, but with ported heads and a cam, the extra RPM of slippage in a non-lockup won't hurt your mph as much as those of us who nose over at 5000 RPM. You may also want to look into leaning your chips out on the bottom end, as too rich can hurt spool up. |
Jeromy gamble (Jeromy) | Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 12:01 am Tommy I am using a chip from pricision and 009's I have a wolbro pump 3"dp 21/2 dual ultraflow exaust, my fuel pres is at 45lbs running 15lbs of boost and it is a lazy pig until about 2800 where it spools up and takes off. |
