Melvin Hatcher (Melvin) | Friday, December 21, 2001 - 07:26 am What's involved in replacing the governor in the 200 R4, gaskets ect.? |
Ken Mosher (Kenmosher) | Friday, December 21, 2001 - 10:03 am OK, going from memory here so "Your Mileage May Vary", "Objects In the Mirror Appear Larger", and other standard disclaimers apply ... Basically: 1. Remove the transmission pan (nows a good time for a filter/gasket change, as well as maybe installing a drain plug) 2. At the rear of the transmission, you'll see the governor cover. It's held on with a few bolts, easy to access. 3. Undo bolts and hold the cover up while you are doing it (prevents all the innards from dropping in your face and the pan of oil... ask me how I know this? ) 4. Carefully remove the cover and grab the governor and let it out (usually has a slight twist). Be careful with the little spring that is on the weight pivot. 5. Reverse to reinstall ... be really careful with torque on the bolts, since the transmission is aluminum and too much force will strip the holes. Pretty straight forward... hope that helps! |
Melvin Hatcher (Melvin) | Friday, December 21, 2001 - 10:41 am Thank, that is pretty much as I thought. I know that I will need a new pan gasket, how about the governor pan, do I need a new gasket for it, reuse the old one, or is there one? |
Todd Mitcham (Glyd2bme2002) | Wednesday, February 20, 2002 - 09:26 am Hey everybody got a "minor" dilemna here, bought my GN in August of 01...The car had some problems as I would have expected with an old car like this..Multiple Exhaust, Oil and Transmission Leaks all over the place..Found out too that I had a turbo leak and fan relay trouble..24ib carmaro injectors are in my TR...cracked header..NO heat in car either..(Lots of Trouble hey) Well the very first maintenance I had performed was getting the wires and plugs changed..Had platinum plugs installed...Didn't know at the time platinum was a big no-no in these cars..lol Well found the trans in my TR was NOT a GN 2004r but rather a monte carlo ss trans..My mechanic rebuilt the trans with a 2004r and that was good but he still needs the correct plug for the lock-up harness. Now if I'm correct without having the coverter locked up this will cause slippage through gears and drastically reduce street not track performance right or wrong?? Moving on, finally got the dollars to go through my first phase of work on the car. It appears worth it to me meaning the car when purchased already had a TH downpipe, ATR pit-bull dual exhaust, Airbag and posi rear end not to mention the car idled and ran pretty good to me atleast even in this poor condition...OK took my car to a performance shop specializing in TR's..Found out that my #1. Turbo was gone (This had to be rebuilt, gaskets and all replaced etc)#2. Cracked header replaced #3. Fan relay trouble repaired #4. Injectors replaced with a 42ib bosch set #5. Red armstrong Fuel pump installed #6. Red armstrong street chip installed #7. Set of multiple gauges #8. 160 Thermo #9. Bend cross-over bar replaced #10. Breather replaced #11. Chrome Up pipe replacing stock #12. passenger Valve cover replaced #13. Auto-lite plugs and wires installed... All of this having been said, I still need new bushings for both upper and lower control arms according to the shop. Is this something that can wait cuz I'm trying to build a street racer not a track monster? If u got to this point then u are really interested in helping me out..lol....Any advice and/or suggestions are gladly accepted.. Thanks All Todd M. |
