Hello everyone. On my way to BG my tranny decided not to downshift on several occasions while coming to a stop resulting in some bucking/almost stalling condition. It only seems to do this after driving for a while. Then it would start off as if in overdrive? Other than that it did fine while racing everyday in BG including 3 "kills" on the street in BG(onother story:-)). Any suggestions/opinions appreciated. Take care, Jay.

Sounds like the TCC is sticking to me. Replacing the solenoid in the VB should fix it.

Yep, sounds like it is tcc hanging. Replace TCC with a 700R4 electromagnet style. Then service trans filter and new fluid. Should be good to go.

I ordered a new one from the dealer for a 87 Camaro V-8 (part # 8654129). Bolted right in but you'll have to splice the 2 color-coded wires into your original harness. I used as much of the new wiring as possible, making the connections near the connector in the case.

Yep, good choice. the difference is plunger vs electromagnet which the 700 is. Wire length doesnt really matter but I'm sure the guy above has had good luck as most do. You can purchase for about 20.00 anywhere. No specific one needed. Just has to be two wire.

I ordered a new TCC solenoid from GM before reading the above & the part# is 8634967. This # differs from the # on the website. Can anyone verify that this is the correct piece? ASSuming it is, I'm planning to use it. What is the benefit of the electromagnetic type, reliability? Or does it perform it's job better?
Thanks,
Lee Kline

Can anyone explain the difference between the 700 R4 and 200 R4 TCC solenoid?

Being solenoids, they are both electromagnetic, but I'm wonder what the differences are too.

Gonna have to start digging through some of the information and see if I can find some pictures...
