I am in the middle of having my 8.5 10 bolt with 3.42 gears changed from an open rear to a posi with 3.08. I bought a used carrier that required the spacer to shim correctly. Now the guys doing the conversion say they need different c-clips. Has anybody ever heard of this? If so were do I get these new clips.

Now it's getting worse, the shop is saying the carrier was not designed for c-clips! This is a factory GM posi carrier, all the bearings fit perfectly, and the axles slid right in. Is there another carrier that shares bearing size and axle spline count that would not have allowances for c-clips?? I am going to the shop tonight to get a part number off of the carrier. Thanks for any help you can give.

The rear propably came out of a Z-28 or TA. Thats the last place I saw a non c-clip rear. I think the disc brake rears came that way.

Thanks for all of the help guys. At this point I have come up with three options (yesterday I had one). I can have the side gears machined to accept c-clips, put the peg leg back in and buy a lock-right, or put on a c-clip eliminator kit. Right now I am leaning towards the eliminators (maybe some leaks but never a bad thing to do anyways). What do you guys think?

The company I work for just bought this company that makes an alternative to a posi and locker. Don't know how they work - but it is an option for a peg leg. www.powertrax.com I see the units available from Summit for about $300.

Keith,

I was just browsing the forum and came upon this [your] post. In the time that has passed since then, have you heard anything more about the "Powertrax no-slip traction system"?

I have one of those Auburn units in 'Baby' that seems to have gone South. That's more South than SC :) Moreover, the problem is in the differential unit so any information you can throw my way would be appreciated.

Ron
