Bob Mongeon (bob1965) | Wednesday, June 20, 2001 - 01:57 pm i'm in the process of cooling off my car and want to know if anyone has ever vented a hood or bought a hood with cooling vents. heat being the biggest problem to these i would think someone has done something. the hood i have on there now is, well not so good and was thinking maybe i'de use it to vent if i could buy something to vent with...ie cut big holes and put in louvers or something or can you buy an after market hood already setup...any ideas? thanks OH yeah...this board is the way to go in my opinion...GOODJOB GUYS |
Ken Mosher (Kenmosher) | Wednesday, June 20, 2001 - 02:43 pm I've seen a guy who had a normal turbo hood and added GNX style louvers along the sides towards the rear. It actually looked pretty cool.... I'd worry about water getting in though, if it's a daily driver. |
Scott Przybysz (Priz) | Wednesday, June 20, 2001 - 08:51 pm Bob, You could try what I've done and I've seen others do the same, even if only at the track, just pull the rubber seal that goes along the top of the firewall that seals the engine bay to the hood. That should help pull some hot air out and help pull some more cool air in through the front. My car has never had it, and thought it was fine until I saw someone at the track taking theirs off, I really didn't know it was supposed to have one. I can't think of a reason for putting one back on, and with it's location it shouldn't cause a water problem, like holes in the hood would, like Ken said. |
Roy Garcia (Boost) | Thursday, June 21, 2001 - 09:21 am Bob, I've also pulled the rear hood gasket on bot cars and any other TR's that I've owned. My buddy Laz tought me this years ago, and it DOES help engine bay temperature. Any improvement you can make, especially if you live in hot area, to keep temperature down, is a great bang for the buck and prolongs longevity.Nice re-rodded, re-cored radiator, ram-air, covers along side your radiator compartment, and possibly going to a four row radiator can be helpfull. |

Gary Heuston (Magius231) | Friday, June 22, 2001 - 08:23 am what about adding the GNX louvers themselves where they are supposed to be? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they vent hot air from the engine bay anyway? |
Brandon Maley (1kwikv6) | Monday, November 05, 2001 - 11:27 am Bob, I ran a piece of a/c ducting from each of my high beam headlight bezels. one connects to my open element filter(budget ram air) the other just blows air directly on the turbo/motor. My scanmaster says that it cooled the temp by 25-35 degrees depending on the outside temp. E-Mail me for pix of the install. It actually looks halfway clean. |
