Does anyone know where I can get the gray GN interior paint for metal surfaces? All I've seen advertised are for vinyl or plastic.
thanks for any help.

Kirban sells the paint. You can use it on anything you want - steering column included ;)

Click on "Specials" at the left, then scroll all the way down and click the link:
"Theft Deterrents, Decals, and Miscellaneous"

I took the metal trim off and I want to clean it before I paint it. I've tried bleach, gas, and some stain remover, but nothing seems to work. I don't want to put a wire wheel to the metal because it is so thin. I know trying to get 15yrs of grime off is pretty hard. Any suggesstions before I begin to paint the trim.

Try cleaning the parts with a lacquer thinner it is fairly strong and won't leave a residue behind like the products you were previously using, the paint will stick better be sure to use a good primer if you want the final product to last a good long time. If the parts are that bad you may consider having them media blasted, (the best way to go in my opinion). Good Luck:)
