I can't seem to get the ignition cylinder out of the steering colmn. I disconnected everything right up to the lock, it's loose, I have the key turned to start but the small visible tab won't retract. Can someone please help?

Did you take the screw out? There is a screw that holds it in. It should be a torx head. At least that is what was in my 87 GN. My 82 Regal had a Phllips head I think. Once that is out, it should just slide right out.

Sounds like you have a real mess there. Maybe your ignition rack is broken too. Why are you replacing the lock cylinder? If it is because it wouldn't turn or periodically locks up there might be something hanging it up. I have seen steering columns so bad that sometimes the only thing you can do is tear them down to last nut and bolt. You might want to loosen up the three bolts that hold the housing to the main support. Take the signal and wiper switch out and look down into the column. I think since you made it this far what ever is hanging it up should be obvious. Good luck

I did that too. I actually have to replace the tilt mechanism, there's too much play to the left.I've replaced every part of the steering and suspension except that.In order to replace the tilt and the shaft I have to get this damn cylinder out.
