This weekend I started searching for GN's in my area because my car is going lemony on me ('tis an Olds Alero, what a sorry car indeed). I came upon this one:

I was enthused until I realized something that I learned on this website. The '87's were made all black. Even the grill. Now, this car doesn't have a black grill? Should I start to worry? I also noticed that the fender badges are possibly missing. I have been unable to communicate with the seller because my stepdad is still deciding on what to do with the Olds. I just wanted your guys' opinion on the possible problems with this car. Thanks.
You should be able to run a vin check at www.carfax.com.
I cant tell if thats a chrome grill, but an 87 shouldn't have one at all. Missing badges are common if the car has been repainted - which many have been due to the crappy job GM did on these cars. Other than that, keep in mind the car is 15 years old regardless of how many miles it has. If you drive it - pay attention to the trans shifts - should break tires loose shifting into 2nd easy and shifts should be very firm. Brakes may be going..and you'll need good brakes to stop these pigs. Car should idle smooth as well - dont let the seller tell you it goes away when it's warm, etc. Take it to a mechanic or a GN pro If you're still suspicious. Get the VIN like shawn said too.
Just use your best judgement. It's probably not a fake due to the high cost of recreating a GN vs. just buying one. If the grill is chrome - it was either replaced or in an accident if it's an 87. He might have an 86 front end on it or something..
Yeah the listing says that i has a custom paint job... custom meaning new. That would explain the badges. So yeah, once it all gets cleared I'll get the VIN. Thanks!
