Sorry, I didnt know where else to put this post. Im looking to buy an 87 GN for about $3500. It sounds to good to be true to me. So my question is what can I do to make sure that the GN is legit. The trunk lid has been changed to one from a regular Regal so I cannot verify that the vin on the RPO sticker matches the vin by the windshield. Where would I look on the transmission and engine to find the vin? Is there any other way to tell if the car is legit or not? I just dont want to end up buying a retaged GN. But at $3500 if the car is clean thats a bargain. Thanks for any assistance.

On the left(drivers) side frame rail the last 8 digits of the VIN is stamped into the top off the rail. You will have to raise the body up off the rail at least an inch or two to read it. Some have tried a dental mirror but unless you know where and what to look for this might be hard to find. If it has the original transmission in it there is a VIN stamped on the side of the pan gasket rail on the left side. Look for a flat spot on the case. The numbers on the tagged riveted on the case wont have a VIN just a date when the trans was assembled. On the engine look on the left side back on the bellhousing area. Again look for a flat spot. You will have to remove a few layers of paint to see this one as it is not stamped very deep.
