I have a 86 GN with the digital dash and was wondering what the red light means just below the "Turbo Power" yellow light. I don't have the owners manual to this car either so it is a mystery to me. Anyone know where I can get an owners manual for an 86?

Dunno what that light is for. I don't recall seeing mine come on.

On the Owners Manual, I believe I have a second one around here somewhere that I'll part with. I picked up a "mint" one a few months ago when I couldn't find my original one, then I found the original. Now if I can remember where I put them both... :-)

Let me poke around a bit and I'll get back with you.

Dean

There is a sensor under the hood attached to right fender. Silver pot with one vacuum line and two wires. The yellow light comes on either at zero vacuum or very low boost. The red light comes on as the boost builds up. If you want the exact pressures that triger the light let me know.

Hmmm... not that I'm overly concerned about it, but my yellow light started coming on ~1 year ago (with no intervention on my part), and it is at low boost levels, but never the red light. I would think 25+ psi should be enough. ;-)

Dean unplug the silver pot sensor under the hood. Ground one of the two wires and see what light comes on. Then ground the other wire. You may have a bad sensor or a burned out lamp.

Looked up specs on boost lights. Yellow comes on at 2.5 psi and red comes on at 10 psi

Boost light sensor GM # 25503871 for digital dash.
Looks like is no longer available from GM. Have your local dealer run a locator on it.

My two boost lights turn on at 2 psi (Yellow) and 4 psi (Red). I don't use them, but it's great to scare the hell out of the passengers when big yellow and red lights start flashing on the dash.

Phil, thanks for the info.

Ben, don't let the word get out on flashing yellow and red lights, or the import crowd with the fake BOV sounds will surely latch on. Hey, could be an un-tapped market there. :-)

I only saw my red light come on once and I quickly let off the gas thinking it was engine knock or damage! My red light hasn't come on since and I am now curious why it doesn't. Hmm, I will have to investigate...

Dean-lol about the last comment with the rice crowd! Thanks for looking for that spare owners manual for me!!

For those of you that have the digital dash and noticed that your "red" turbo boost light never comes on and the bulb is good, it may be out of adjustment. On the sensor itself, the bottom connector has a threaded screw that you can adjust in or out. Mine was all the way out so I turned it in about one turn and went for a drive. The light now comes on at about 12lbs of boost! Thanks for leading me in the right direction guys! Not that I will ever use them as I already have an analog boost gauge but it is nice to have all your indicators working after all these years.

Ken
