i just purchased an 87 GN with 7k original miles. the car is all original down to the eagle gt tires with the grey valve stem covers. the car is like the day it came out of the factory. while cleaning the car i noticed that on the drivers side pillar where it meets the t top, sticking out from under the weather strip there is a black tab that stops the door glass from being pulled out. the black plastic piece that should be pressed over the metal tab is missing from the drivers side but is on the pass side. the metal tab is there. i picked up a few of these at my local bone yard but do not want to drill out the rivets and re rivet it in. i would like to somehow remove the plastic from the new one and cement it on the original metal tab.i picked up a few so i could experiment. i do not see any easy way to do this. does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the plastic ? any help would be great. thanks, michael waishek
I had the same problem with the window stop. I just put one in from the bone yard. Ofcourse, if you do that, there goes the weather stripping if it is glued to the tab. Since you have some to play with, try heating the metal side of the tab with a small torch and see if the plastic will pull off of it. If it does then you might be able to glue it on the car. Shouldn't hurt to try.
Does anyone know where I can get the crome molding strip that goes under the glove box in the groove on the dash?
Try hitting the junk yards and getting them out of a wreck. You do mean the strip above the glove box, don't you? Just be careful, when you pull them out. If you bend them too much when you pull them out, then the chrome and plastic covering will bend and crack, and it will look terrible. I myself have grabbed a few of them. Real cheap that way.
