I want a CD player/radio in my car. Any suggestion on which one might be the cleanest, most stock appearing type of replacement. I want to be able to come back to the stock unit if I decide, so I don want to cut or drill or make any kind of new holes. I'd like a Delco unit if there is one out there. Would any of the modern radios fit. Anybody got pictures of something like this?

I have a Sony in mine. Just an inexpensive face off unit that I got a few years back. You can install any unit that you want really. They sell a spacer kit that the unit slides into and it basically "fills in" the space left by the stock Delco unit. Therefore no cutting of the bezel or anything is required.

I purchased a 6 CD changer which is installed in the trunk and uses an FM modulator to play the CDs through the stock/existing stereo. It plays through the lowest FM frequency 88.7 or so (but you have to turn off the CD changer when you tune in regular off-air stations). It has a wired remote control for changing disks/tracks, etc. The benefit is that I keep the original radio, the downside is the wired remote which I keep in the console storage compartment. I bought it at K-mart for about $100. I'm very happy with it.

A stock radio from a newer GM vehicle will fit fine using an adapter harness you can get from GM. I got a new circa '92 CD radio from Jay's GN awhile back with the harness. Modified some stock knobs to fit and it looks like it came on the car.

I personally would leave the stock radio where it is unless you really want one of those fancy LCD screen high tech wonders. If you are just lookin' to have the ability to play cds in the car I'd go for changer with an FM Modulator.

You plug the Modulator in between the radio and the antena, connect a couple of wires and your set. The change will come with either a hardwired or wireless controller depending on how much you spend.

You can check'em out here:

Putting in an aftermarket cd player only takes about an hour if you have all the right stuff (dont cut your factory wires please) and has much better sound quality than an FM mod unit. If you are looking for some of the best deals on car audio check out http://www.soundillusions.net

I have a pioneer deh-p4300 in my 87GN right now. It will soon be traded out for an Alpine 9807 deck. I also have Alpine Type S 3.5", Alpine Type S 5.25", Alpine Type S 4x10", Alpine MRP-M350 Mono amp, as well as an Alpine 12" Type R 1241 sub in my trunk in a ported box from edesignaudio.com. Hey, I'm a kid... you gotta have a system. If you want all one brand, Alpine is the way to go, but look to spend the cash on it.
