Thank you for your positive feedback. I recently purchased an 87 GN so my regal project was put on hold. Wish best for you on a fast and healthy recovery

I used to own a 1986 Buick Regal with the Oldsmobile 307 Ci., V8. I recently bought a 1985 Buick Grandnational T-Top.
I would recommend that you for one take out the engine, tranny, and all other things. You can leave the gear shifter which I believe is the 3 gear w/ overdrive if you regal is the same as mine was.
Look up the where the engine mounts are for the GN and see if there is a conversion to replace the engine. If not you might have to weld in new engine mounts.
After that select a good transmition. If you dont have one, you could get a Hurst Power rod shifter for around the same price as a regular GN tranny. That is if you are going for a performance type of regal. I am not sure if you can use the same tranny on the GN engine. But I recommend to go to cottonsperformance.com and look up parts and you can ask the guy yourself about alot of the questions you have. Unfortunately I havent gotten to work on my GN to much since I am in the army and gotten injured last year.
I hope you the best of luck and hope I helped you a little bit.
