Valve cover gasket sealant

I'm sure I'll get numerous different opinions on this, but here we go: I'm going to be using Fel-Pro type cork gaskets to fix my leaking valve covers. What would be a good procedure and placement for RTV sealant (i.e.-between cover and gasket only, on valve cover side only, both sides, no sealant, etc.)?

The topic on the website tells the guy used 3M Super W/S adhesive. Anyway, I have put the blue RTV on the transmission pan then the seal on top of it, then back on the transmission during fluid changes for years, no problems. Will get the drain plug deal one day. Same as rear end. Hope this helps, Joseph.

I've always used the method Ken Mosher suggested, I believe.

- Paint the gaskets with a high-temp silver paint and let dry
- Install the gaskets in the covers after coating with a very fine bead of O2 sensor safe high-temp sealant, (Note: gaskets may require a bit of trimming in the OEM valve covers) which can be found in grey/silver.
- Let dry overnight
- Install on engine - no sealant required. Do not overtorque.

I stopped the oil hemorrhage from the valve covers by using Fel-Pro permadry plus. Part number VS50156T. Available from Autozone for $23.

If those are the metal ones with two sealing blue rubber strips they have worked wonders for me.

I have a question about the VS50156T gaskets. How did you deal with the steel tabs near the inside corners of the gasket that interfere with the gasket sitting flush to the groove in the cover?

I will be replacing my manifold seals and valley pan, among other things, this weekend on my car... Should I use a sealant, such as Hylomar, on the intake gaskets, specifically: the manifold cooler gasket, intake seals, front and rear manifold gaskets, and throttle housing gasket?
As always, your advice and suggestions are much appreciated.
