new torque converter not locking
just put new trans and an edge 9.5"lu converter in and noticed it was not locking up on the fwy. i did some research on this site about it, but could not find any answers. for some reason i have no power to any of the wires in the 4 pin connector(key on) at the trans. i then checked the fuses. they were all good. one thing that caught my attention in the fuse panel was a 30a fuse where it says it takes a 10 amper. it says ecm sol where this fuse goes. someone who had the car before me must have had problems with this circuit. i know the ecm controls the lock up, so could this be a faulty ecm? i did not drive the car much with the old trans and stock d5, so i really never noticed if it was locking or not. the new converter is a 3000 stall and is quite noticible on the fwy while unlocked and not to mention the high oil temps. any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: new torque converter not locking
The trans pins are mostly signals to the ECM, and they are usually shorted when "active" (i.e. 3rd gear, 4th gear) so you may never see voltage there.
The only one I believe you can "do" anything with is the TCC pin. Again, that one gets shorted, and that you can do frm the ALDL connector inside the car. You might try that. If you poke a wire into the right connector and the ground connector, you can make your own TCC switch. There are instructions on the site for this. One thing that can keep the car from locking the TCC is the switch that senses brake pedal application. If not correctly adjusted, it will disable the TCC circuit from grounding, and thus the TCC will never apply. This is mounted above the brake pedal, 6" or more up the pedal arm from the pedal on a bracket under the dash. I think there is one switch to activate the brake lights, and another for the TCC. Note that I don't think the "switch" mentioned above will circumvent this, either. Depending on the trans and converter installed, it is possible to have a non-lockup pump installed in the trans. In is also possible to have a non-lockup converter. And you need to determine the reason for the 30A fuse in your ECM SOL position, and whether it belongs there or why it was put there. |
Re: new torque converter not locking
if the vss buffer aint hooked up or working the TCC wont work either

Re: new torque converter not locking
thanks for your reply scott. i did make my own temporary switch to the aldl using the info from this site. no clicking going on. i bought the trans from lonnie dier from extreme automatics and i'm confident it is a locking set up. and the coverter is a %100 lu. i have talked to lonnie about this and he said there is one wire that has 12v within the 4 pin connector at the trans. wouldn't you need some kind of voltage to make the tcc click? i did check the brake switch as well and it is adgusted properly and has power. lonnie is supposed to get back to me if and when he finds something out. i was just hoping someone on this site ran into the same problem. thanks again scott

Re: new torque converter not locking
how can you test to see if the vss is working properly?

Re: new torque converter not locking
check your scan tool and see if it has any MPH data
in other words just because your speedo is working doesnt mean the ECM is seeing the MPH |
Re: new torque converter not locking
i have had the vss code come up on my scanmaster before "#24". my speedo cable broke and it threw that code. i assume the vss is working. thanks for you input

Re: new torque converter not locking
mph reads on the scanmaster.
