Careful! You don't want the RJC one, as it is only for their pan. You want the Duttweiler one that they sell if you are working on an 86/87 motor. Yes, the blue FelPro ones do suck. One is dumping all over my garage floor at this moment... |
Re: Oil Pan Gasket
yup, i hate that thing. And to add insult to injury i cannot find a cork gasket anywhere in town. But the RJC one is good to go? Any other decent ones out there? Thx again for your help.

Has anyone had success with locktite :lock: on their pan bolts?

I see no need to Locktite the pan bolts. They should hold by themselves. |
Re: Oil Pan Gasket
the felpro cork oil pan gaskets work well.. I have the RJC pan and his gasket.. it seals perfectly...

Re: Oil Pan Gasket
The rubber ones work fine with me. You have to tighten them down to the factory specs which is just barely finger tight. I think it's 14 lb ft or something that small anyway. There is a reason GM put the big thick metal reinforcement around the pan rails. So you dont have to torque the heck out of the gasket. Thats the problem. If the gasket is squishing out the sides than you have it installed too tight. Look under any GM engine built in the last 20 years.(Okay forget about the Northstar for a minute). They all use the same one piece rubber gasket and those heavy reinforcements on the pan rail. And those dont leak. There is a reason for that.
Besides cork is porous and you'll be leaking like the Exxon Valdez if you like to run synthetic oil. |
