Fan Blower?

I just keep coming up with new ways to annoy you all :blah::blah::blah:

The air movement in the passenger compartment is AWFUL. The difference between low and high on the blower is not much. When I turn it on high, it makes more noise, but the airflow is barely faster.

What do I need to troubleshoot/replace here to get good amount of flow here? Keep in mind this is just "VENT", no A/C (thats another project -- R-12 is RIDICULOUS and to convert to R-134 seem like a PITA)

Summer's a' comin' and I'm already dying!

The door(s) that control airflow in the system might not be "flipped" right to get the best airflow. This can happen due to the age of these cars.

Have you ever heard a "thunk" or "whap" sound from under the dash? That might be an indication this is happening.

I only hear that sound when turning the system from "OFF" to "VENT" which I figure is normal. Ill look at those doors though...

FWIW, the R134a conversion is not that hard. And there is a complete procedure on the site. (Surprise!)

So I am back to revisiting the blower now the the car actually runs properly :-)

Scott - You mentioned in a previous reply the "doors" may not be opened properly. Where are these doors? Behind the dash? Do I need to take the dash off to access them?

And in reply, no, there is no big "whack" or "thrump" when turning the vent on.

Thanks Ken. I'm sure I could lock it down now :-)

Re: Fan Blower?

Have you taken the blower out and tried to look inside the plastic cowl to see if anything is blocking the air flow??? Like a mouse nest or particles of dust and dirt that can partially cover the evaporator and heater core... That could also give bad flow... I think you can only see the evaporator core, but it is worth a look... Tom G.
