Engine wont run off full choke

Hi, I have a 1962 buick v6 198 in a willys cj2a. The engine won't run if not fully choked and also puts out quite a bit of smoke. It has a Rochester 2 jet on it. Any help about any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Either you've got a massive vacuum leak or n issue with the carb and it needs to be rebuilt.

Well, you could just use your hands and ear and search for it...

Or, take a propane torch, let the gas flow but don't light it, and pass the nozzle around anywhere there might be leaks. If you hear the engine suddelnly change its tone and RPMs, you have found the leak.

I prefer a can of carb cleaner or brake cleaner Scott. Put the tube on it and then spray different things until the idle goes up or smoothes out.:pat:

Thanks, this should help and the smoke is white. Also Ive been told using propane can be a bad idea. Will it hurt my engine?

IMHO propane fine. It will not ignite, especially in free air and such a small amount.

White smoke indicates burning coolant. I would suggest doing a compression test as well.
