Block differences
What is the main difference in the 109 turbo blocks and na blocks. I know there is a oil return feed. Are the blocks more stout? If im not planning on making alot of power would I be ok to build a NA engine up? I can get a rolled fillet crank, 2 dot rods, and 8445 heads for a good price.Im going to turbo it also. What do you guys think?

Check out the metallurgy and such. Other than the drain hole there are no differences. |
Re: Block differences
So the other difference inl the turbo blocks have more metals in them? Like it says Manganese (maybe), and some Chromium (maybe), so really there not even certain.

Re: Block differences
No ... they are identical. Read a bit closer ...
The STAGE blocks have different metallurgy (reportedly) ... production blocks have the same metallurgy. Any 109 block will be the same (turbo or not) |
Re: Block differences
oh, ive been confused on that for awhile. What about the pre 86-87 NA blocks, what is the difference between them and the 109 blocks? I couldn't find anything in the tech area about them, but i could have missed it.

Re: Block differences
I just found a NA 86 doner car to use the 109 block for my 84 ha. I know that the heads are the same, but my concern is the deck height being slightly different. I want to use the stock 84 intake to maintain the HA configuration & look
Any problem here? |

Re: Block differences
Have your machinist measure it ... if it came out of a N/A car, the deck height may be the same as the '84.
In either case, it's such a small amount, that everything should bolt up fine either way. |
Re: Block differences
The deck height is the same for all 109 blocks. Even the NA motors used a thick graphite HG to compensate for the shorter deck.
