Powermaster Help (Forwarded)

Forwarded for Bill, please reply to him via email:

Help!
My friend just called my on the road (300 miles from home) where he lost his brake system. The problem he has is the 30 amp. fuse feeding the brakes keeps blowing. He had the motor replaced about 200 miles prior after being diagnosed as defective (same problem-blowing the 30 amp. fuse). Any ideas? Bad accumulator, pressure switch? Any workarounds to get him home from Jamestown, Wis. to Detroit area? Please respond if you have any ideas.

It's probably the accumilator, switch and possibly the mastercylinder unit. When your friend replaced the old master cylinder was the new one just a rebuilt. Try to find and 1987 chevy monticarlo and just take the complete system out and put into the grand national.

Was the master cylinder rebuilt prior to replacing the PM motor? Did the brake light come on prior to the PM motor replacement? What color is the brake fluid? If the MC wasn't rebuilt, probably the check valve is leaking causing the motor to partially operate all the time. During this condition, the brake warning light will not illuminate until the fuse blows. Usually if the MC wasn't rebuilt, the brake fluid will look gross and black. That black material will stick to everything and may cause the check valve to stick. Your bud could try and buy an accumulator and maybe it will get him home. If the check valve is sticking, he could try removing the PM hose and remove the check valve and clean the area out with brake clean. It may get him home, but he has to listen carefully for a low hum, indicating the PM motor is running when its not suppose to.
