Just bought 87 GN and tranny acting funny. Help.

I just purchased an 87 GN and when the car was test driven all was well. It even drove the 250+ miles home fine. Since then I have gotten in the throttle a few times to see how it acted and it seemd to shift fine under full throttle. However since then the shift from 2nd to 3rd under little to part throttle seems to slip or something. Almost as if it is going into neutral before going into 3rd. Under full throttle it does not do this. Then today when driving in my neighborhood the RPMs had to get really high for it to shift into 2nd. the shift was firm it just took to long to do it.

I have heard of some kind of converter switch or relay that can go bad that would cause similar issues (don't know for sure just what I heard).

Can anybody shed some light on what might be wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd first check the fluid for the proper level.

This actually sounds like the governor has lost one of its springs. This link shows a rough look at the governor: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/tran...n/governor.jpg If this or something in the transmission is the issue, it will mean someone that knows what they are doing has to go in to handle it.

This might seems like an obviously silly question but what is this parts function?

This website has a good writeup. Apologies for it containing a sales pitch...
