Won't idle

My GN doesn't want to idle after it has been brought up to normal operating temp, shut down, and restarted. It just dies. So i've been holding the gas pedal down a bit to keep it going until I get it...

Down shift bump

The transmission in my 87 GN with 116,000 miles just started making a very loud bump/thump noise when it down shifts to 1st or 2nd gear. Is it time for a rebuild or is a simpler fix possible?

Re: Sudden death!

UPDATE: The fuel pump (Walbro) was bad. It was only 2 years old. Very disappointing.

Sudden death!

My mostly stock 87 GN has developed a nasty little habit of just dying sometimes. It usually happens after a longer than normal drive or if the AC is running. And it's always after taking my foot off...

Re: Won't turn over

Everything is basically blacked out at this point. It won't crank at all.

Cool Won't turn over

Tried to start my 87 GN this morning--it cranked a little bit, didn't start, and went dead. No lights, nothing. Waited a little while and tried again. This time the dash and interior lights came on...

O2 Readings

I've attached a picture of a snapshot from a TurboLink recording. What's going on with O2 readings? I had the sensor replaced about 3 years ago.

Re: Detonation/Backfire Problem

The E3 plugs are still in. I got them from Kirban--part number E3.42. I also got the wires from Kirban. The wires cost $50; plugs $35. Stock turbo, stock boost.

Re: Detonation/Backfire Problem

Update: I went for the easy fix and just put on new spark plug wires. The problem is gone! I suspect that during the replacement of the injectors, fuel regulator and spark plugs that the old wires...

Smile Re: LT1 and Translator

I went with the Big Mouth cold air kit from Turbo Regal Custom Parts (www.buickgn.com). It worked out fine. Love the sound and can feel the power.

The LT1 and MAF Translator were very easy to...

LT1 and Translator

I just ordered an LT1 MAF and Translator from Full Throttle. Do I have to remove the stock air filter canister and use a K&N cone filter? If so, what's the best way to anchor the assembly?

Any...

Re: poor operation

My 87 GN had the same symptoms this summer. A rebuilt MAF cured it. You have to be careful to get one that is calibrated correctly. I tried one through my local Buick dealer and it was crap. Got one...

New Transmission

I found a new 200-4R transmission listed on NewGMparts.com for $1622.00. Is this the same as the original transmission in an 87 GN? What other vendors offer replacement transmissions for an 87 GN?

Re: MSD31869 Ignition Wires @ Murrays!

I'm beginning to believe that each of these beasts has their own little quirks. I bought my GN new in 1987 and it has always: idled rough on start up, leaked at the rear main seal, leaked at oil...
