As soon as you said something, I called /texted my mechanic and friend, Bob Frontino of PV Performance in San Dimas, CA, who is simply awesome.
He said he didn't notch the cooler, he only notched the bracket that carries the intercooler. It was super tight and the picture shows a rub mark, as you guessed. I may try to get the braces off, and get some thin silicone sleeves on them and then put them back.
The car is pretty well braced all around and is a 'lightweight' because of the low optioning [no power windows, T-tops, cruise, aluminumm bumper supports, etc.].
