no boost at all
Ok after a lot of help on from this site my 87 t is up and running, at least it was for a few weeks of fun. Now I can't hear the turbo and there's no power. I feel like I'm driving my grandmothers regal. It runs fine. Is the turbo spent or should I test something? Thanks

Re: no boost at all
Check for leaks at the turbo, intercooler, or throttle body.

Re: no boost at all
Thanks Scott,
What am I looking for oil leaks ,vacuum? Didnt see anything when I did a quick look. It was blowing some smoke right at stat up than nothing. Dont know if that had anything to do with it. |

Re: no boost at all
Check the "vacuum Y hose" for connection and inspect the lines for holes. Like Keller said check those intercooler hoses (remove and inspect) and verify they are properly connected to the inlet/outlet. Is the engine light is on?

Re: no boost at all
No engine light. I will be checking those lines tomorrow. I am new to these cars ,always wanted one and was able to get a 87 ttype and GN in a package deal. Ttype has new motor. Car has been great for a few weeks. Then started driving and no power. No turbo "wine" and no turbo light. Car runs and idles great. Thanks

Re: no boost at all
Just a couple more things to look at since you are newer to these cars so I will explain in more detail. The factory boost controller is on the passenger valve cover and the turbo Y hose comes off that then splits into two lines. The larger line 3/8 line goes to the compressor side of the turbo (check it's plugged in). The smaller line goes to the wastegate actuator (check it to). The left side of the controller will be open to atmosphere. You need to check that the wastegate actuator rod is connected to the turbo exhaust elbow (brass lever). It's held on by a small clip (wastegate actuator, cruise control, throttle cable, and detent cable all use the same locking clip) but sometimes the clip falls off and the rod pops off the lever.

Re: no boost at all
Ok so took off the y lines and blew them out. They were good. The rod was still connected. Should you be able to move that rod when the car is off?

Re: no boost at all
Can you post pictures of the wastegate rod, boost control solenoid on passenger valve cover, and pics of the Y hose where they hook up at all ports? This would help determine your issue via the 'net. The other option would be to get someone near you that knows these cars to take a visual look.

Re: no boost at all
No the rod is really stiff and you need pliers or a wastegate toll to pull it forward to attach it to the wastegate lever even when the car is off. If it's loose and can be pulled forward by hand with ease something is wrong with it (bad spring or diaphragm). A replacement will be around a $100 but it will be adjustable.

Re: no boost at all
The rod wouldn't move so that's why I asked. I thought that i found the issue but I guess its ok.
