Re: iron v6
Huh?
There were several different blocks and heads over the years. Exactly what are you asking?

Re: iron v6
I would think a good iron 231v6 would be good for 500-700HP if built with all the good iron stuff. Buick used these iron motors for a iron long time.

Re: iron v6
The "109" block is a good stock block and can be extended with steel main caps, girdle, etc. It'll definitely live in the 10s (and has been used into the 9s, but there is a shorter fuse on those motors).
The iron Stage blocks are obviously the best, but they are getting scarce and expensive... however, that's the way to build a reliable 7-8 second race car. It's one of those "it depends" ... depends on the year of block, prep, girdle, crank, etc.

Re: iron v6
What do you consider 'high'? Several people here push them to 500-600-700+ HP on a routine basis. The upper end of that range has a few tricks for longevity, but 600 is usually pretty safe.

Re: iron v6
It is funny to read in some of the old car craft and other Rag magazines how they taunt the buick motor was running on the ragged edge of destruction, those were stage2 engines in the 10S and some in the 9s. Now you have stock production blocks doing those times on a regular basis.
I think the stock block is way under rated. They will come apart as will any block if not tuned right. |

Re: iron v6
Ummm... there were no aluminum V6s produced in the G-body Regal.
The only aluminum parts were some special (and very rare) MotoSports pieces, some prototype M&A pieces from the 80s, and now the TA Performance block ($3500 or so).
