Should...get? I would go with a proven name. GM pumps are still available, and NOS4GN sells a Gates unit. There are other choices, as they are not unique to the turbo cars and are widely available.

Unless your stock balancer is damaged, or you plan to spin the motor up to 6000+ RPM, or go 600+ HP and race the car, I don't think it would need replacement. A SFI unit can be about $500, and doesn't help unless there was a danger of the stock one not being able to live due to high RPM use.

Not sure if you are asking about pulleys, bolts, or both. RJC and other sources offer billet aluminum pulleys. They are lighter and prettier than stock, but don't offer much else. ARP bolts are always a great choice, but can be expensive. They are very strong and well made. If using their rod, crank, or head bolts/studs, proper preparation is key.

All of these depend a lot on your goals and budget. I would suggest a roller cam to avoid the issues with modern low-zinc oils. Roller rockers are great for performance, but overkill for a stock rebuild. Stock heads can go well into the 10s with proper porting if that is what you are wanting to do.

Your goals, budget, and use will help answer these sorts of questions.

Um I was hoping to just do the few little things that aren't to crazy. That would help my performance, I'm not trying to race the car maybe just a few good burn outs.. Any suggestion on cam & where to get heads ported right

A really good upgrade is a stretch intercooler and its cheaper than heads. Better spool up, gain a few lbs of boost, better idle, and 20 to 30hp gains.

Lightbulb Re: Need help with sprucing up my motor

Many have used Champion as a good source of ported heads and intakes. They no longer require cores for heads. and that reduces shipping costs substantially.

Comp Cams roller cams and lifters have been a good choice. I believe Comp has at least three different profiles, and the most aggressive one would probably be overkill for a basically stock TR.

A larger intercooler is a nice addition, and would increase the output gained from the heads and cam. It does not "add" boost, but provides less restriction and thus can allow boost to rise higher. As always, too much is not a good thing, so be sure to monitor it on a good aftermarket boost gauge and turn it down if the fuel you are using can not provide the required octane. Or add an alcohol injection system. I can't think of any reason an intercooler change would affect idle one bit.

These cars could do burnouts just fine from the factory, but I understand there is always a desire for more!
