Default Considering Increasing Performance...Best Mod for the least $ (Bang for the Bu(i)ck)

Not really sure where to post this since I don't see a Performance Thread on this forum, but I have a question.............I have a completely stock original GN. I know there are a lot of aftermarket modifications available for these cars. I would like to do the most efficient modification to increase performance for the least $ and alterations from it's current box stock state, but I don't know where to start.........chips, cold air intakes, exhaust....etc........I would like to keep the car as stock looking as possible, and I don't want to modify anything to a major extent as it is a completely stock and I would like to preserve as much as that as possible................With that in mind, please let me know what you know, where to look, and any tips that you may have.........thanx

I checked out the recipes, and I don't really see what I'm looking for, so I will be more specific. I am looking to keep the car as stock as possible, not harm it in anyway.......I'm not looking to change any suspension components, engine internals, add racing slicks etc....I just want to gain the most that is possible with a stock GN without compromising anything else. With that in mind, I have a few questions:

1. Performance Chips - Yes or No? If so, what's the best one for a stock GN

2. Down Pipe - Yes or No? What's the Best for a stock GN?

3. Cold Air Intake - Yes or No? What's the Best for a stock GN?

4. Wastegate - I don't know where or what it is, but I've seen it mentioned....what should be done here?

5. Turbo - Not sure what to do here, if I need to...........let me know

6. What else?????

I'm not looking to spend a large wad of cash, I just want to get the most out of what I have for a reasonable price..........Any advice would be great. thanks

If you want to chat about alcohol, just ask around in our 'Alternative Fuels' area.

Chips are a must. See the Chips/ECMs area.

Downpipe chat is in the exhaust area.

Air intake stuff is in the turbo area.

Wastegate chat is in the turbo area.

The car is a system. There is no 'magic bullet'. You can't do anything with one modification and expect all other systems to keep up without being stressed with no adjustments or modifications. Certainly not to get the most of things.

I would suggest a chip as the best single initial mod, and best bang for the buck, for a bone stock car. I basically shaved a solid second off my ET with a chip in stock trim. However, I suggest also having a scan tool of some sort to insure everything is in proper tune.

Thanks Keller...............Seems like the chip is the place to start. Which is the best??? Where do I purchase one, how much should I expect to spend? Are there any potential problems with the installation?? thanks...

Please ask questions in the appropriate areas!

Some boards do things with no organization. This one does not.
