Question which trans would fit with least mods?

I just got my "recovered" 1987 regal t back with the motor, trans, brain missisng, and I was kind of thinking about puting an LS1 in it, then "sts turboing" it later ( www.ststurbo.com ). Would the 4L60E auto trans fit where the 2004r was?IS that a strong trans? would a t56 fit?
Any help apreciated.
Tom

Thumbs down Re: which trans would fit with least mods?

Since a TH400 can be made to fit (with minor tunnel adjustments) I'm sure it would fit. However, the LS1 transplant is not an approproate topic for this site. We only talk about Buick _powered_ performance here, so discussing the that transplant isn't apropos...

No more LS1 talk.....
unless we theorize buick is going to use an ls1 based motor in the near future, retool it a tiny bit and call it...uh...SP8.....just a thought...

Umm first off the 4l60e is the biggest pile transmission their is, I had one 3 in my impala SS with a LT1 behind it and it kept blowing up and 2 of the trannys were built up and I spent a ton on them just goto impalassforum.com and read all the problems they have with them. The TH400 is a rock solid trans but doesnt have OD so you cant fly on the highway for long periods of time. The T56 is a sweet tranny but would make alot of work to make it fit. Just buy a good 2004r built to the gills and you wont have any problems, if built right they can handle 10 second cars all day long without a problem.

I 2nd that. 2004r needs just a few mods to be great in the 10s-9s. Hardened forward drum, hardened stator support, good clutches, band, 10vane pump, shift improvement kit, cooler.
