Question 87 GN stock springs?

Ok I know most of u guys don't approve of 20" wheels on the GN's but I'm hoping u guys might help me anyway.

I put the 20" Foose wheels on my GN and I love them the only problem I have is the front wheels hit the inner fender wells when I hit a big bump.

I'm thinking of putting stiffer springs up front and this should take care of my problem?
Guess my question is what springs would I need to put in there to keep them from hitting.
What are the stock springs in there now, and after 24 years they are probably not as stiff and a bit worn?

Thanks in advance Richard

What are they? The stock TR springs. The actual rates are defined by the RPO codes that start with 6, 7, 8, and 9 on the trunk sticker. I'm sure the rates they refer to have been stated somewhere before.

Moog should make an improved spring that will do the trick.

Between the wagon wheels you are mounting that have no sidewall, and putting on tighter springs, it ought to ride like an oxcart when you are done. Large wheels increase stopping distances, too. (They weigh a lot!) So be ready for a Baer kit soon.

They are basically the spring codes for the "heavy duty" suspension on the TRs. Each corner has a different code. For what you're doing, it doesn't really matter since you are replacing them anyway.

I'd be really careful with spring rates ... that thing is going to ride pretty darn harsh with the heavy wheel, low sidewall, and limited travel. If you can find a replacement spring that is progressive, that'd make it more tolerable. Kirban sells replacement springs, but they don't look like they're progressive ... but they might help if the old ones sag a little.

That said, not a fan of the wheels, but I like the brakes!

You would be suprised how much clearence you will gain just by installing oem springs. The ones in there now are 25 years old and have settled quite a bit.
