Bang Head Turbo identification

I'm trying to get a new Turbo Tweak chip and they need to know what Turbo I have. The problem being is that the id sticker is gone. The previous owner said it was one step up from the factory Turbo. Only info I can find is its a Precision Turbo. By the downpipe flange it says A/R .63 and by the intercooler it says A/R .60. I contacted Precision and was told to look for a very small scribe starting with PTB...... I can't find anything. Any ideas?

Exclamation Re: Turbo identification

I've never known the TR turbos to have "ID stickers".

Also, the PTB nomenclature maybe stamped into the exhaust housing (which would only tell information about the housing) or scribed into the compressor housing. What if it isn't even built by Precision? It would have none of that info.

Does the exhaust housing have "PRECISION" or "GARRETT" cast into the upper edge of it? The former guarantees something is aftermarket. The former still leaves it up in the air.

If it is "one step up from stock", chances are the turbo is a TA49 (if it has a bolt-on inlet bell) or a TE44 (of the compressor housing has the inlet integrated as one piece). Look on the website to see if yours looks like one of the pictures of the turbos displayed there.

FWIW, the stock, TA49, TA60, TA61, and TA62 look pretty much identical...until you look at the size of the inlet or exhaust housings. And for that, you need to break out the wrenches and a caliper.

Default Re: Turbo identification

Looks like a PTE51. The only difference is mine doesn't say GARRETT on the compressor housing. Those pictures were helpful. Thanks.

Lightbulb Re: Turbo identification

It would be expected for any PTE turbo to use a PTE (Precision) exhaust housing,

Question Re: Turbo identification

After further inspection, I found a scribe saying its a GT3255E. Any good? The impeller has two sets of blades. Curious about the reliability.

First level upgrade. A little smaller than a TA49/TE44 equivalent. Its fine, but they are now considering a PT5557 or PT5857 the first step upgrade. More the latter than the former.
