Default Engine noise? Timing chain?

Rebuilt the engine and I have a light tapping noise. It's very consistent 1600 to 2200 rpm under light load and makes the knock sensor go crazy. Colder the engine the worse it sounds as it warms it gets better. I installed a double roller with no tensioner and was reading they can be noisey? I have over 4k on the rebuild and it's been like this way since day 1

Question Re: Engine noise? Timing chain?

Was the block bored down the crank centerline at all? If so, you need a shorter chain.

Do you have good oil pressure everywhere?

Sure your lifters are pumping up properly? Roller cam or hydraulic standard cam?

Could be the crank sensor rubbing on the shutter wheel.

Default Re: Engine noise? Timing chain?

I grabbed my stehascope from work put it all over the engine and the cam sensor is making horrbile noises I am going to start there. Loud grinding and tapping noise at engine speed makes the knock sensor lose it's mind.

The motor was a freshen up. Honed and polished crank. Very good oil psi with the high volume kit 100 plus cold then backs off to 20 hot idle 50/60 on a highway cruise

check your oil filter for aluminum shavings some double roller chains need to have the front cover clearanced.
My lifter link bars make noise but nothing too serious sounds worse in the car than out.

I pulled the cam sensor out. The bottom brass bushing broke free and chewed up the housing. One problem down. Still mad a top end lifter noise that's next to find. And my random knock issue never ends...
