Default Boost gauge

Recently installed a boost gauge on 87 T-type, snd every time i accelerate into boost, the boost gauge needle jumps around to the pressure of boost its given, but its to hard read it with it fluttering. Whats wrong snd why is it doing that?

Lightbulb Re: Boost gauge

If everything is connected properly, it could be a few different things:
- Leak in the gauge lines
- Leaking head gasket
- Leak in the upper manifold
- Leak in the vales, rings, etc.

Boost should always be smooth. If it is not, there is a good reason. Check the guage lines and connections, then check engine compression on each cylinder.

It is unlikely but you could have a guage that's overly sensitive. I've got a vacuum guage that is very sensitive and flutters like crazy. Works good for diagnosis but I don't want to use it for driving around.

Another possibility is a weak or failing diaphragm in the waste gate actuator. Could be not controlling boost at the limit.

You can bench test the actuator with some compressed air and see if it is leaking...
