Unhappy The last Buick V6 has been built...

http://buickcity.blogspot.com/2008/0...00-engine.html

It was a 3800, of course. But they built over 10 million of them. Who knows how many Buick V6 motors in total were made.

The 3800 had direct historical and design connections to the V6 in the TR's, and the ones dating all the way back to the 60's. Save for when the (early) motor was bought, produced, and used by Kaiser/Jeep/AMC, it was always produced in the same Flint factory. Another motor plant will be set up in Flint, so all is not lost for "Buick City".

However, that is the end of Buick motors. At least from GM. (You still can purchase TA Stage II V6 blocks and heads, and there are other aftermarket heads. I believe Champion was working on a block as well.)

The Buick V6 was named by Wards as one of the 10 Best Engines of the 20th Century. Its in there with some pretty good company: Chevy's small block. Ford's flathead. Volkswagen's flat 4. Porsche's flat 6. Etc. http://wardsautoworld.com/ar/auto_be..._th/index.html

More info on its history here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V6_engine

"People actually buy vehicles because of this motor," said UAW Region 1-C Assistant Director Norwood Jewel. "Be very proud (and) never forget that."

The Buick V6 will be missed by many. Great engine, good gas mileage and good power. I'm always looking for a 3800 powered car for a daily driver.

TA Performance has a completely new casting ... all aluminum and about $4000 for the bare block.
