Default Back pressure combo?

Hey guys, I was told this combo would have "back pressure" problems...???

Rebuilt short block stock specs
Turbonetics ball bearing te44
Duttneck stock intercooler
194/204 speed pro cam p/n cs1112r
Champ iron ported heads
3" rjc down pipe/2.5" exhaust system
10.5" 2500 l/u from ck performance
All supporting mods for above

Ultimate goal is to have a very responsive mid 11 street car running 24#'s boost with alky
Do you guys see a problem with the combo? And if so what problems does back pressure cause? Tia

That looks like a solid combo ... I assume that "supporting mods" includes fuel pump/regulator and injectors (with matching chip)?

Also, you might consider a slightly larger turbo if you're going with ball bearing. It's amazing how quick the BB turbos spool. Maybe a PT5858 or 6262 or 6266 with BB option. I think the Garrett style turbos also have some similar options.

Smile Re: Back pressure combo?

Thanks Ken,

You assumed correctly fuel system is covered, car has been down for ten years so I've had plenty of time to research what works and what doesn't, I "think" I got it right but a well respected guru on another Buick board mentioned the back pressure thing..he mentioned the turbine being too small maybe that was why?

I based the turbo decision on wanting to run the lighter 10" converter with as tight of stall possible to compliment the small cam to make good torque down low. Also I knew I wanted to stick with the stock I/c with duttneck again for weight savings and also it doesn't interfere with the larger sway bar or extensive frame bracing my car has, wasn't sure if a larger turbo would overwhelm it?

My problem is I can only base my decisions from research and theories, I don't have any experience driving or messing with a well tuned turbo regal, bought my car in 04 drove it around on a lousy tune and the motor blew, live and learn

Default Re: Back pressure combo?

Is it the combo of ported heads eating more air and the resistive turbine of the te44 that creates back pressure? Wouldn't the stock intercooler limit the amount of air that gets to the turbine anyway? Would this even be a problem at 24 psi?

Lightbulb Re: Back pressure combo?

IMHO, the stock intercooler is a limiting factor in any build very far from stock.
