steering gear coupler
Does anyone know a GM part number or where I can get a steering gear coupler, I replaced the steering box and its still sloppy. A mechanic friend looked at it and said that a new steering gear coupler would do the trick,
unfortunately he does not have a parts connection. |

Re: steering gear coupler
Good news is that should be pretty easy to get ...
I'd try someplace like Gbodyparts.com first ... then even the typical auto parts place ought to have them .... Depends on if what you are looking for is a COUPLER or the U-JOINT... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Steeri...DisplayId=2038

Re: steering gear coupler
Lots of people over on turbobuick.com have been switching over to the mid-90's Jeep Cherokee steering shaft/joint... direct swap, cheap/easy to find, both new or in the boneyard, and great results reported...
http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/bra...e-shaft-2.html If you search 'jeep steering' or 'jeep shaft' over there, you can find a bunch of result reports and shafts for sale...

Re: steering gear coupler
Thanks for the fast replays guys, Speedway has couplers but you have to tell them what size you need, anyone know the applicable hole size/spline needed.

Re: steering gear coupler
I made the switch to the Jeep shaft and it's a no brainer. Got it off ebay for $15 plus shipping from alljeepparts. The only thing is you need to slightly clearance (I used a Dremel) the steering shaft because the pinch bolt that secures the shafts together lays beside the shaft instead of going through it. A 20 minute install including the clearanceing, noticibly improved feel. I cleaned mine with a wire wheel buffer and hit it with some rattle can matte black, looks good.
