1985 gn
Found this 85 GN on craigslist. He wants $4500 for it. I think that's a little high. What do you guys think?

Re: 1985 gn
Flat paint / primer, Olds wheels, interior damage...more like $1500. To make it look decent won't be free.

Re: 1985 gn
I offered $1500. Because we are in HI, he believes it is worth much more. $3500 is his bottom dollar.

Re: 1985 gn
Looks like the seller is willing to let it go for $2000. Any other thoughts?

Re: 1985 gn
Changed his tune, didn't he? ;-)
IMHO, it might be worth it. Question is, what do you want to do with it? A full on resto will be expensive. Getting some of the "junk" off the car and making it a daily driver (if it does run and drive well) would be worth it. I would verify that it has the correct rear end and transmission. And test drive it. If you are satisfied, I'd offer to split the difference. If you can get it for $2k or under, its pretty hard to argue. That is, IF it has the 8.5 rear and the 200-4R with the right calibration. (i.e. one that wasn't pulled from an old Sedan DeVille) What you want to do with it will really determine your next steps. But at that price, just getting decent wheels and a proper shift knob on it would increase the value. Eventually, new seat covers and a few other things will make it a great buy. Even out the flat paint, or get a good paint job and you'll start to have a head-turner. Being an 85, it will never be worth what an 86-87 car is, but it can be a great low cost TR driver!

Re: 1985 gn
The fan shroud alone on those cars is worth a small mint (and it's missing in the pictures .. I'll bet it runs hot).
I agree with Scott ... for <$2k with the proper transmission and rear end, you can't get hurt too bad. Worst case you can part out a lot of stuff and make the money back. The electronic climate control can be worth some $$$ to someone trying to fix one of those since parts are so scarce for them.

Re: 1985 gn
Thanks for the advice. Thought this might be a good first car for my boy. I will be looking it over tomorrow and will post my reviews when I'm done.

Re: 1985 gn
So, look at it. Has rust in both doors and a lot above the drip rails. Is missing the passenger side wiper arm and assy, horn button was off and looked to be broken. He also said it had a cracked intake manifold. The transmission and rear end were out of a 87 T-type. To much to be done for me, even for $2000.
