Re: need to vent
Hi Guys
Just about done with my 85 it has been sitting for 3 years in Ft. Worth at Billy Dukes shop if ya'll have ever heard about Billy. He's real good with these cars and mtangs also. I had to relocate to New Orleans and have been working on the car since I got it back to Lousiana this last Christmas. One of the last things I need to get fixed is the A/C. I had a front end wreck that is why it was at Duke's shop and of course lost all the freon. Can any of you folks tell me what a conversion to the R138 system costs and not knowing the law, do I have to convert? |

Re: '85 A/C (was: need to vent)
Here is what I did (from memory), 3 years ago.
“NO”, I am no AC tech! My compressor was leaking, so, replaced the compressor (R134A compatible) Purchased a new dryer and orifice tube Purchased some AC system cleaner in a can Went to O’Reily and “borrowed” the AC Vacuum evacuation system for a $350 deposit. Purchased 134 "Conversion kit" (Walmart) Removed the old dryer and orifice tube “Squirted the cleaner” in the system Soaked it and blew cleaner out with compressed air Connected and installed dryer and orifice tube and conversion nipples Connected and ran vacuum/evacuation pump (8 hours) Filled up R134A (3 cans) 3 Years later, no issues.
