Ta-61 turbo
Ok guys need some advice. I am shooting for mid 11"s with my set up. I have stock internal block with alky injection, 60lbs injection, turbo tweak, big mouth cold air intake, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, walbro fuel pump. Would like to keep my engine block And converter stock for now. There is a good price on a Ta-61 turbo and, someone told me build your car for high 10"s if i want to shoot mid 11"s. Im planning on getting a stall converter in 6 months, should i buy this TA-61 turbo or go with a Ta-49. Both our the same price. Can the car be driven with a ta-61 on it?

Re: Ta-61 turbo
With the stock converter, you'll be happier with the TA49. The TA61 is going to have some lag with the stock converter. If you are going to spend the coin to upgrade to a converter in the NEAR future, you can do the TA61 and just put up with it until you get the converter.
Properly driven you can go low 11s/high 10s on that combo with a perfect launch (at 12-15psi). The converter makes it MUCH easier to do the same thing with less launch drama/spooling. The TA49 makes this a non-issue. I've done both ... and have gone low 11s with the 61 and stock converter (and low 1.5 short times) BUT ... it takes some real driving to do it and get the launch perfect. With the stall converter it gets MUCH easier.

Will my stock block engine be ok as well? Thanks for replying so fast to the thread.

Re: Ta-61 turbo
Completely agree. A local club member went 11.20s with a TA-61 in the cool fall air without a FMIC, alcohol, etc. I've gone 11.71 with a TA-49 in similar conditions.
Both cars had a higher stall converter.
