If the lifter is damaged, then the cam is most likely damaged or rounded as well ...

Could be a number of things ...
  • Front cam bearing clocked incorrectly (blocking the oil passage)
  • Incorrect lifters with oil holes in the wrong place
  • Bad cam casting with improper allow/hardening
  • Misaligned lifter bore to cam lobe center
  • If this is as flat tappet cam, then lobes ground wrong and lifters not rotating correctly
  • If a roller, then too soft a casting or the lobes were not properly hardened

Don't forget to add if its a stock cam that this is a common problem with that lifter and cam lobe. The cams weren't ground right and that lifter doesn't rotate properly and it rounds off the cam lobe. Mine did the same thing. I put a Lunati cam in. It is supposed to have a special grind on this lifter lobe to make sure this doesn't happen again. I'm sure other cams might to but off hand don't know any.
