Default Operation Overthrow! Unleaded Gas for $1.35/gal

My goal is to get regular unleaded fuel down to about $1.35/gallon (where it should have been all along). Lets see how much support everybody in the Buick community can get from friends and relatives to make this work. Information is located at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7yJrqRjbDU

Exclamation Re: Operation Overthrow! Unleaded Gas for $1.35/gal

Umm...yeah. Fortunately, the cost of nothing else on the planet has increased in the last twenty years or so. And the value of a dollar has been the same throughout.

Right?

Wrong!

Not saying the tax structures of the oil companies are necessarily right. There are all sorts of games that can be played with corporate taxes. But the costs of just about everything have increased over time. And the value of the dollar has decreased. There are a lot of reasons. But this proposal has no sane economic foundation, any more than demanding all cars drop back to 1970 prices.

Don't want to turn this into a politial forum, (PLEASE let's not do that...) but having been quite immersed in the study of finance lately, this just doesn't "compute".

Happy reading!

Three stores sell the exact same product,
Suddenly the one with the most money (and most to lose) stops getting customers.
Do they just keep their prices where they are and go bankrupt or choose to lower prices to get all their customers and more back?
Either way the poor win. We end up with lower gas prices or Exxon Mobil goes bye bye and we do the same procedure with the next in line till the message is clear.
There is always the chance the price will not get down as low as we would like but well worth the effort when it costs us nothing.
Nothing ventured, Nothing gained.

Unhappy Re: Operation Overthrow! Unleaded Gas for $1.35/gal

I guess you aren't aware that the margins on fuel are tiny. The stations are generally not owned by the oil companies. This will have zero effect.

But good luck with the effort. Given the twelve views when I saw it, there is a long way to go...
