Bang Head intermittent problem

when starting my 87gn cold at idle it stalls sometime& sometime doesnt, it also has stalled on me while at a stop light, every time that happens it starts right back up. i checked batt.& terminals, checked " ok " also checked fuel flter " ok" . installed new plugs. when driving, it runs strong without a miss. i installed a 12" dual unit fans that draws 19.5 amps. & a small fan for trans. cooler 6.8 amps. i installed them about six months ago with no problem, now im having this problem, could i ineed a higher capacity alternator? this happens when im driving in the day time. i dont drive much at night because im concern with my lights& radio on & fans on i may be drawing more voltage than my alternator can produce? am i way off base with my concerns? are there other areas i should look at. i appreciate any help anyone can give me with my problem. thanks burke

Question Re: intermittent problem

How many miles are on the car?

When you say the battery and alternator check "OK", what does that mean in terms of voltage?

Have you cleaned and adjusted your IAC?

Do you have a scan tool?

Default Re: intermittent problem

there are 87,796 miles on car, i attemted to checked voltage with car runing, at batt., but car dies "now" right after starting, i checked voltage at alternater 12.8 car not runing. i have not cleaned iac or ajusted it. i do not have a scan tool. should i start with the iac first? if that does not correct the problem where should i look next. i trying to learn all i can about these cars. thanks again burke

Lightbulb Re: intermittent problem

If battery is at that with no load, things are probably OK. However, IMHO, I don't like those fans.

I think you need to do http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/faq/IACresetscan.html However, probably need to remove and clean the IAC and its passage first.
