Re: tranny problems
What is "abnormal" about the way it is shifting? All shifts "abnormal"? Just one of them? (1-2? 2-3? 3-4?) How many miles on the car? Has the trans ever been touched? Is it the original trans? Is the fluid full? Has it been serviced recently? Ever?

Re: tranny problems
here is the story -- the car sat up for ten years after engine and tranny both had been rebuilt , the previous owner could never get the car to run so he just parked it, i purchased the car and tore the engine down and checked everything and got it running , now when i got it on the road it doesnt shift to second until about 30 mph and third @ about 48 mph, i tried to adjunt the TV cable and got back on the road and it worked for the first shift after braking and restart it goes back to 30 and 48 .

Re: tranny problems
also the tranny is not slipping at all but i dont want this to damage it so i am not driving it. on the rebuild from the records the previous owner gave me it has a hardened shell, shift kit, 2500-3000 tcc.

Re: tranny problems
Sounds like maybe the TV circuit .. maybe the slider valve is stuck.
It would be worth a fluid and filter change and while you have the pan down, check that the TV valve slides freely (where the cable attaches to the valve body). It could also be governor, which is pretty easy to remove and inspect with the pan off. Weights could have fallen off or got gummed up from sitting. Another easy (and free) fix. If none of the obvious stuff like that, then you may have to have a real trans expert look at it, because it's most likely in the valve body. Good news is that it sounds like the hard parts are good, which should make this much cheaper if it comes to that. You won't need clutches/steels/drum, etc.
