Default wild idle

when car is cold, idle starts at around 2grand. sometimes moving up to 3 grand.

there is no way this can be safe. how can i turn this down, and what could be causing this?

Air leak, stuck IAC, or stuck EGR valve can cause this ...

Read just about any other posting in this category. As these cars age and change hands, they are all encoutering these issues. Then find the appropriate links on the website for the cures.
