Default High Idle at Start up cold

'87 Regal Turbo T. Start engine cold....starts immediately.....engine runs up to 2500 rpm and stays there. If I shut off engine and restart...idle comes down, but not idle speed...still at 1500 rpm. What's my problem?

Thanks--I'll check that out. I thought a module or solenoid regulated the idle speed when the engine is cold. I wonder if I scan the computer, will that tell me anything?

If you scan the "computer" it will tell you lots of stuff. Knowing what you are looking at and what to do about it is a whole other ball game.

If you do a scan, it'll probably show the IAC basically maxed out (trying to close).

It's most likely either a vacuum leak as stated above ... be sure to check all the hoses at the top of the throttle body, the PCV and so on OR the IAC itself is dirty and sticking open (or the little plastic gear is partially stripped in the IAC itself).

Thank you for all the replies. I'll try them and see if they cure my high idle when cold.
